3 reasons to stay at a KOA on their halloween weekend | uniontown koa | sell family adventures

it’s november 1, and i am finally getting to post about our little fall getaway for wild thing #3’s 5th birthday! this is what the month of october does to photographers.  it’s really insane!!

if you have following my blog for a little while, you have probably figured out that we have come to love KOAs (kampgrounds of america).  we have a mile long wishlist of KOAs we are dying to visit!  last may, we had our first visit to the uniontown koa, you can read all about our adventures on that trip here.  then, in july, we hit up the myrtle beach koa, you can read all about that trip here.  we have had our fair share of camping trips in the last two years, in tents (we have this tent, and it’s so nice and roomy!), and cabins, but we have never been camping in the fall.  it was so much fun!!  we have made it a priority to take trips with our kids, no matter how small they may be.  they give us time to regroup as a family.  without fail, every time we take one of this little trips, i am reminded why we do this.  we just don’t seem to have the discipline as a family to chill out and be with each other for a full weekend at home.  of course, i don’t mean to say that we don’t play games together, or eat dinner together, or snuggle at night.  i just mean to say, that when we spend a weekend away like this, we spend a weekend discovering new things together, enjoying new experiences, and having fun together without worrying about the laundry, or vacuuming, or getting to hockey on time.  you know, every day things…

so on to our mini vacation..

we’ve never been camping in the fall let alone on halloween weekend, and it was such a treat!!

we stayed in a cabin again, and let me tell you, it was beautiful!!  it was a two bedroom cabin with a living room, a kitchen, bathroom, a deck, a grill, and more.  it rained all day friday, and half of saturday, and it totally didn’t even matter because we just relaxed in our sweet cabin (i’m using the term “relaxed” loosely)!  one of the things that we love so much about KOAs is the list of themed activities each week, and we totally scored the weekend we were there because it was their halloween weekend (just a side note, halloween weekend may be different depending on the koa you are visiting- it doesn’t necessarily fall on halloween weekend.

here are 3 reasons to stay at a koa during their halloween weekend.

so many fun things to do at a koa!! especially on their halloween weekend

  1.  super fun crafts!!!  the kids got to make spooky spiders.  the staff at every koa we have been to has been genuinely kind, and so wonderful with the kids!

2. decorated RVs and cabins as far as the eye can see, and the kampground itself is decorated.  also… so many cool costumes- guests dressed up, staff dressed up, even the dogs dressed up!  people, this was fun for everyone!!  plus, trick or treating on the kampground is so much easier than walking from house to house with little ones.  we wandered around the kampground just admiring the pride that went into setting everything up.  i love how everyone was so into it.  it really showed, and made it so much more exciting for us all!

3.  after the sun goes down, comes the bonfire, the dance, and the haunted hay ride.  i’ll let the pictures do the “talking” on this one.
