Last month, our family visited our second Koa (kampground of america). If you missed our first one, you can check out our visit to the Uniontown koa here. This time, the location was myrtle beach, sc koa. We are completely hooked on koas at this point, and if you happen to follow my facebook page, you may have noticed I hinted that I had figured out my dream job. So, here it is… when I grow up, I want to be a travel blogger for family’s with kids. that’s totally doable, right?? I mean, there must be loads of people out there that want to pay me to take my children places around the country, no- WORLD!, and let them know just HOW we did it with four kids, and made it work for us. We’ve got a list of koas we have our hearts set on visiting, along with a nice little list of other places/ adventures we need to expose my children to before they leave the nest. If you’re out there in cyberland reading this, and you want to pay me to travel somewhere and write a review on it, bring it! I won’t stop you!
kidding… kind of…
Alright, so this is completely unpaid and just for fun to let you all in on our vacation, and all of the fun we had, and what we loved about our stay!! This is definitely an image heavy post.

First of all…
Myrtle beach is so wonderful, it’s beautiful, and it’s far enough south that it’s really starting to feel tropical. None of us had ever been, and we really did fall in love with the city. Also, in case you didn’t know, palm trees are my favorite! That’s just a little tidbit about me i know you were all dying to know. “What’s Lorrin’s favorite tree?? I neeeeeed to know!” Ha! Now you know!
There was so much to do in Myrtle Beach, we could have gone nonstop everyday had we wanted to, and never come close to getting it all in. I was exhausted by the end of the week, but honestly, we are adventure seekers, and not sit still and relax peeps, so it was just as it should have been! With four kids ranging in ages 11-1, our activities were limited a teensy bit. We just found the right ones for us!
adventure #1
We stayed at myrtle beach koa in a two room climate controlled cabin (read: AC!!!). There were also tent campers, RV spaces, and deluxe cabins. Our cabin was a basic cabin with no bathroom, and no kitchen! We packed all of our linens, and I made crockpot meals <– i’ve got a whole bunch of them here, if you’re interested. Before we left, I froze them in ziploc bags to cook as they thawed, we made mountain pies, and ate out a fair amount.
The cabin was actually perfect with 2 sets of bunk beds, and a full size bed, and NO tv!! Yeah…. we like our electronics, and while we had brought plenty, we had no wifi in the cabin, so this was pretty much roughin’ it for us. I have to say, we were all nervous about that, and it ended up being one of the nicest things about our trip. We were not cut off from the world, but it did force us to spend more quality time with each other when we did stop and take a minute to breathe! Side note, the kampground does have wifi, service was just spotty in the cabins, but we were able to get it at the pool.
This KOA had a TON of things for the kids to do that were included when we paid for the cabin. Between being able to roast marshmallows, and all the activites offered by the kampground, we could have stayed on site and never seen the beach… there was THAT much to do!
They had TWO awesome, AND ridiculously warm pools!
There was also a super fun splash pad, and i swear, every single person adult, and kid alike had fun in it!!
There were 2 playgrounds..
a bounce pillow….
a dog park…
which obviously wiped this boxer (and her abnormally long tongue) out…
and, when my wild thing #4 took her naps (all dirty from playing hard)…
there were planned activities for the kids. They played capture the flag, and pool games, and dunk kickball (we all made it to that one)..
the staff was (as always) incredibly friendly, and fun!
The grounds were clean and beautiful.
adventure #2
Exploring Myrtle beach, SC
We decided on the morning after we arrived, that the only way to explore myrtle beach was by golf cart. We were right. We spent the week cruising around town on this bad boy. It POURED on us one day, and we were all laughing hysterically at the ridiculousness of our family of 6 trying to get home while rain pelted us in the face. Still wouldn’t do it any other way!
We hit the boardwalk where the boys all got themselves some ink, we ate pizza at the best pizza place, we had subs from Mr Subs (which was totally worth hitting up…so stinking delish!), B and wild thing #1 rode a terrifying spinny thing, we went to Ripley’s Believe it or Not mirror maze (had a BLAST in there! I would recommend to anyone, lots of giggles in there by us, and the other family in there!), We ate Italian Ice from a kiosk on the boardwalk, we checked out the pier on 2nd ave, we went to Loco Geckos and spent a small fortune on special shark cups (but had a dinner that made them worth every penny, at a totally reasonable price), and explored Broadway at the Beach (wish we would have discovered that before the last day we were there- so much cool stuff going on there! We got our Jimmy Buffet on at Margaritaville! The list really does go on.
adventure #3
The beach. My kids are fish. I mean it, they would stay in the ocean all day, every day! It makes my heart happy to see them in the ocean.
