Finding ways to save money on groceries without coupons has become a hard core mission for me. Feeding a family of six is no joke. Feeding any size family is no joke!! Food can be expensive, and we all have bills to pay, so finding ways to save money on groceries is a must!
9 ways to save money on
groceries without coupons
*for your convenience, there may be affiliate links throughout this post, so you can easily find the things i am showing you. by using these links, your pricing stays the same, but i earn a small commission. you can see my full disclosure here
1. Shop sales.
That may seem obvious, but saving money on groceries does take a bit of planning. Paying attention to sale flyers will help you decide what to purchase and where. Don’t by anything that isn’t on sale.
2. Write a grocery list.
Again, planning will make a world of difference when it comes to saving money on groceries without coupons. Shopping without a list can lead to purchasing items that may already be in your cabinets, forgetting items you actually need, and so many impromptu and unnecessary purchases.
3. Take advantage of Ibotta.
Ibotta is a super easy app that allows you to save money on groceries, and tons of other stuff. You download the app, and get cash back on products at tons of stores. The beauty of this is you don’t have to shop online to take advantage (you CAN, but you don’t have to) which means you can earn cash back on your groceries. And this all happens without clipping or printing coupons. Plus, guess what!! You can get a $10 welcome bonus right now!! You just have to sign up for FREE right here, and take advantage of one of the rebates within 14 days of signing up. This is all LEGIT free, so it’s silliness not to sign up! You can use Ibotta to get cash back at Target, Publix, Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Lowes, Giant Eagle, Kroger, the list goes on… I think there are 283 stores…
4. Meal plan.
Meal planning will help you create that grocery list, and keep you from spending additional money on takeout, and drive thrus. It can take some work, and a bit of effort but the pay off is significant. If you’re not interested in, or struggle with meal planning, you should totally check out the $5 meal plan. (Use this link to get 2 weeks of meal plans free!)
$5 meal plan is pretty cool for even someone who is a consistent meal planner. I plan my meals prior to writing my grocery list every week. Every week, I ask everyone what they want for dinners. Every week, I get a whole lot of “I dunno??”.
For $5 a month, the $5 meal plan sends a weekly meal plan, recipes, and grocery lists. The recipes are really good too, and you can customize your meal plan. AND they even have video tips to help you save more money on groceries (beyond the money you will ABSOLUTELY save just by meal planning!)
If you’re the kind of person that struggles with coming up with meals each week, give the free 2 weeks a try! It’ll save you some time, and money!

5. Buy in bulk
This one is tricky because a.) you need to be sure it actually is cheaper than purchasing during a sale, b.) you’ll have to be able to finish the product before it expires, and c.) if you have kids that will swallow snacks whole just to finish them as quickly as possible, buying certain things in bulk could backfire.
Consider shopping with a friend or family member who may be interested in splitting certain items with you. You get the cheaper price without having to stash or hide stuff.
6. Shop at Aldi.
I have turned so many people into hard core Aldi shoppers, it’s a major source of pride for me at this point. You guys, it’s nearly impossible to find things at a cheaper price than you can at Aldi. Of course, other than a few special items, it is all their brand, but we love their food.
7. Buy generic brands.
There are times when we purchase name brands, but typically, we buy generic. And, typically, if you read the ingredients on the label, they are exactly the same on the name brand products.
8. Use Amazon’s subscribe and save program
Amazon prime members ( get a FREE 30 day trial for Amazon Prime here) can get 20% off of products and free delivery. You can find out more about the subscribe and save program here. I have been subscribed to several products at different times. (It was super awesome when we were buying diapers, they were cheaper and at my doorstep every month!). You can get snacks, paper products, shampoo, etc. (Check out all of the reasons you should NOT sign up for Amazon Prime here!)
You can cancel subscriptions, or skip at any time with no charge. As with any purchase, look around. Make sure your subscription items are in fact cheaper than other places. You may find some items are significantly less than you would find them in the stores, and others are priced higher.
9. Don’t rule out the dollar store.
I can pretty much guarantee you’re not going to be able to do all of your grocery shopping at the dollar store but I am amazed by the amount of stuff that is sold at the dollar store. Snacks, bread, and even condiments are all at the dollar tree. It’s worth swinging by and seeing what you can find. AND you can take advantage of cash back from Ibotta at the Dollar Tree!!
We save money every week by taking advantage of almost all of these! Which of these options do you think will work best for your family?
